The
Ritron SLX.......
|
is the result of a global partnership based on American engineering, European technology, and the efficiency of Korean assembly. In late August of 2005, five key channel partners (that's what we used to call dealers) were invited for a visit with Ritron at their corporate headquarters in Carmel, Indiana. We were fortunate to have been invited to this red carpet event where we were introduced to Ritron's newest product, the SLX personal communicator. Those of us who have chosen to partner with Ritron made that choice on the basis of the quality and performance of the products coupled with the fact that Ritron made the decision to stay in the USA while most of the others were rushing to China for low cost manufacturing. Ritron's commitment to their employees, their community, and their country is appreciated by those who recognize there is more to business than profits. However, if we look around, we can see that those who survive in business will accept the fact that we live in a global economy. Ritron is no different, but the approach to becoming a part of these changing conditions is in using these resources in a way that will be beneficial to all concerned. Those who know us, know that we believe that our best trading partners are Japan, Korea, and western Europe. These countries have quality standards that equal or surpass our own. In a trade relationship, they have traditionally maintained a fair balance of import and export. They pay their workers fair wages (often more than US wages) and can be counted on in time of need. In Europe, the technical standards are more stringent than in the US and the standardization among countries has allowed them to advance technology for the benefit of the users rather than solely on the basis of competition. As a case in point, in Europe, there is an original technology standard known as ZVEI that has evolved over many years. Today, that original signaling standard has been expanded to include Modified ZVEI, French Modified ZVEI, 20ms CCIR, 70ms CCIR, 100ms CCIR and EEA signaling systems. All of these systems have one function, to provide enhanced capability to allow more functionality for communications users. Here are just a few of the features incorporated into the SLX radio as a result of Ritron's incorporation of European technology standards.
So now we are getting the picture - design and engineer the new SLX to meet the needs of American users by incorporating the features known to be of benefit to those we serve - things like built in 2-tone paging (encode and decode), large channel capacity (60 channels), an LCD display, designed to be worn without bulk (think of it as a 10 ounce thick credit card); then incorporate standards of reliability that can be measured such as MIL SPEC 810 F (the latest standard) and IP54 that provides rain and water protection. Lastly, the decision was made to assemble the SLX in Korea, not because they are cheaper, but because of the flexibility in producing a scalable product that can easily be adapted to changing requirements. The Korean commitment to quality is well known. Case in point - Hyundai who is now in the top ten quality automotive manufacturers (actually number six if memory serves us correctly). By utilizing Korea as a point of assembly, Ritron was able to bring the new SLX quickly to the market without sacrificing quality. The SLX is Ritron's first endeavor in producing a world class product. We believe the partnership is the right approach for products such as the SLX where our customers benefit, not only in terms of initial cost, but the value of a quality product offering totally unique features.
