The ultimate Radio-to-Radio extended communications via the Internet is the CSI FLEX III wide area system.  Unlike our other RoIP systems, the CSI system can talk from the main operating center to multiple satellite stations.  For example, a large hospital in a metropolitan area may be connected by management, ownership, or both of smaller hospitals in outlying areas.  We know there are advantages in centralizing functions such as maintenance and security dispatching.  From prior examples, we have described the benefits and operating routines of simple two site systems.  The CSI system can provide extended communications to dozens of satellite locations using either conventional or trunking technology.  A statewide, or even worldwide network of hospitals and EMS services is possible with total Interoperability through the use of a device known as a FLEX III controller.  The diagram may explain this application a little better.

You will note that we have added a device called an IP Server at the primary location.  The information flow on this system travels from the primary location radio upon activation by a personal 2-way radio as shown on the left.  The information then flows through the IP Server for connection to a device known as a Gateway.  The Gateway serves a similar function to the Easy-Link device used in less sophisticated systems.  Selection of the desired Gateway is determined by channel selection initiated by the user of the sending radio.  The function of switching a channel selector causes the IP Server to designate the communications flow to the desired satellite location.  In this case, we will call this Main Facility.

When the calling user keys their transmitter, the call is then connected to the Ethernet, passed through the Internet to the designated recipient (in this case, it is the Satellite Location) via the Gateway.  The call then passes through the associated radio at the Main Facility and on to the desired user group.  Normally, systems of this type are set up for one group of people to address another.  When it is desirable to communicate with an individual user, either the 2-tone or ZVEI signaling incorporated in the Ritron SLX radio can be used for this purpose.  Additional information on the SLX is available at www.usa-radio1.com/slx.  A simple 2-way radio such as the Ritron JMX-141 could also be used if you do not require individual calling at significant cost savings.   Additional information on the JMX-141 is available at www.usa-radio1.com/jobcom.

At this point, the CSI system is performing essentially the same function as the previously discussed Easy-Link system.  The major difference is that we have added a Network Server with an additional cost of $2,495 and we are using two Gateways, each of which costs over twice as much as Easy-Link units plus the FLEX III controller.  So, why would we do this?  The reason is enhanced capabilities.  You will recall that the Easy-Link system is great if there is only one remote site.  The CSI system can serve up to 60 remote sites by simply adding Gateway modems as desired.  Our sample system shown in the diagram above is already configured to add additional sites as desired.  Of equal importance is the fact that the CSI system can be initially configured for LTR trunking, or this capability can be added later since the FLEX III controller is capable of recognizing CTCSS or DCS tones (common to conventional 2-way radio systems) or the LTR format simultaneously.

The cost of the system defined in the diagram above would be calculated as follows:

2 - FLEX III controllers (One each at Main site and Satellite location) @ $1,495 each $ 2,990
1 - CSI Network server     2,495
2 - CSI Gateways (1 at each site) @ $1,995 each    3,990
2 - 19" coaster racks (1 per site) @ $295 each       590
2 - Radio connector cables @ $35 each         70
2 - RadioNexus UHF radios @ $495 each        990
TOTAL SYSTEM PRICE  $11,125

If you have a need that can be addressed using this technology solution, please give us a call - locally in the Birmingham, Alabama area at 205.854.2611 or nationwide, toll free at 1.866.892.5067.  If you are ready to order now, you can order on line directly from our web store.

Flex III network controller.  This is the Brain of the CSI-Net system.  Once pre-programmed using CSI provided software, any handheld (or mobile) radio can reach any other site in the system regardless of radio band or frequency assignments at any of the sites.  FLEX III allows total Interoperability in either local or wide area zones and is compatible with CTCSS, DCS, or LTR functions at any remote site.  Order Code ROIP110.  You can order this item on line by clicking on the Buy-Me button at the right.

$1,495

CSI Network server.  This device is used for controlling CSI Gateways shown below.  Only one Network server is required per system (regardless of the number of sites).  The main consideration is that the Network server be at a location convenient to access by a PC since programming changes are made by a PC connected directly to the Network server.  Order Code ROIP104.

$2,495

CSI Gateway modem for connection to RadioNexus shown below.  One of these units is required at the main site and one at the secondary site.  Use of these devices requires Internet connection, compatible device at point or origin and associated radios.  The RadioNexus is ideally suited for this application although other radios can be used with suitable adapter cable.  Order Code ROIP105.

$1,995

The CSI system is compatible with LTR trunking.  The FLEX III-A is used as a Controller for each channel used at each trunking site.  These devices are available in 1 to 5 channel configurations.  This item is not required on single channel conventional systems.  Order Code ROIP106.

$995

19" coaster rack for mounting CSI system components.  Equipment shown in photo at left not included.  One rack is required at each site.  Order Code ROIP107.

$295

Radio connector cable.  Used to connect Easy-Link with host radio.  Standard cable is for Ritron RadioNexus.  Cable assemblies are also available for connection to other radios.  Order Code ROIP103.

$35

A RadioNexus VHF or UHF transceiver connected by an RJ45, CAT-5 or E&M connection is a simple solution to VHF or UHF RoIP.  RadioNexus comes with it's own antenna and power supply.  Just plug it into an AC outlet and connect your host device. Programming on your desired frequencies is included at no additional charge.  This item is currently not available for UHF trunking.   Note:  Router and software is not included for RoIP operation. Additional information is available by clicking here. Order Code CP308C.

$495

A new high powered version of the Liberty Repeater is available for the UHF band with your choice of narrow band 12.5 kHz or 25 kHz.  This new unit has up to 8 watts of power.  That's  up to four times more powerful than the original highly acclaimed 2 watt model.  Our low price includes antenna, power supply and duplexer.  In most installations an external antenna is not required.  Order Code LIBRPT08.
