Things are changing! For over a decade, fire and rescue alerting was done by bedside monitors (Notably, Electrosonics, Federal, Motorola, Plectron, and Reach). Then along came the pocket pager that we have been using for the better part of the last four decades. The problem is that the number of people using pagers is actually less now than ten years ago. The result is offshore production with corresponding quality issues and increased cost. The Minitor V of today is actually MORE expensive and heavier than the Minitor II, the pager most of us wish was still being made.
Today, it is possible to purchase a good quality personal 2-way radio that can perform the functions of both a radio and a pager for less than the cost of a voice pager. Unfortunately, some of the less expensive models are not too durable and the audio often leaves much to be desired. Our new SST series talk-back pager has the ability to function as a selective alerting voice pager (just like a Minitor pager) plus the ability to talk back.
